Senior Fosters

Vanna

Hello folks!

I’m Vanna and I live with a permanent foster family. Most dogs that enter the rescue will go to a forever home. Unfortunately, some dogs can’t be placed for adoption because of limited life expectancy. Our advanced age or serious medical condition is often the reason we find ourselves abandoned, especially given the pressures of the current economy. Sometimes our family has lost their home or had to move without us. We’ve lost everyone and everything we’ve known for our whole lives.

Permanent foster families provide love, security, and a safe environment for us while Collie Rescue of the Carolinas continues to cover our reasonable medical costs. In return,we will make you laugh and bring you joy. We’re old enough to laugh at ourselves, and act just like puppies, but without all the bad habits. All we want is a loving, quiet place to spend the time we have left in peace.

When you become a permanent foster you fill out an application and are visited at home by a volunteer just like if you were adopting a dog. Our rescue pays for all approved medical costs. CRC approves each veterinary visit prior to scheduling an appointment, except in the case of emergency. Basic necessities other than food are also provided. The foster family provides a home, food, transportation to and from the vet, and lots of love. It takes special people to take us in, knowing we won’t be here long, but they love us like we’ll be here forever. Please consider becoming a last home for an abandoned senior collie or making a donation today!

Update 6/29/11:  Today I crossed the rainbow bridge where I am no longer old and my body is new again.  Please don’t grieve for me, it was just my time to leave.  I crossed finally knowing love and a family because Scott took this senior in to love as if I would live forever.  Our days together were numbered however each day was more special knowing this.  With his love and care I blossomed into the beautiful girl I was a puppy and will now run and play again.  How do you thank so many folks that made this wonderful year of sleeping on the couch and being with Scott possible for me?  Maybe I could help other senior collies by telling you my story and people will come to give them homes or donate toward their care.  This is the gift I would like to leave, to help others.

12/13/10:  In March of 2010 I was found by some wonderful people when I was wandering down a busy highway.  I can’t hear so well any more at the age of ten and never noticed the cars flying past me.  My coat was a solid matt to the skin that had to be shaved.  I was underweight, also had heartworms and rotten teeth.  All my medical needs were taken care of by you folks and Scott took me in to be a permanent foster.  Can you believe I even have my very own bed to lay my bones on.  Sometimes us seniors won’t grow our coat back and much to everyone’s surprise I have put on a tremendous show collie coat.  How can I ever thank all the folks that have made sure I am in a safe, loving home to live out my senior years.
